post punk art rock 2008-2011

Rustmoth started in 2008 with the goal of playing the sort of angular post-punk rock that they cut their musical teeth on.

Combining stacatto jagged drums, looping and swirling guitars, and melodic bass lines,
Rustmoth looked to combine the anxious energy of growing up at the end of the Cold War
with the growing sound of Columbus alt-rock.

Influences included Talking Heads, Velvet Underground, The Police, and The Fall.

Comparisons were made to Placebo, Pixies, Wire, and The Soft Boys.

Rustmoth played locally in Columbus from 2009 to 2011, once opening for international act Hypernova.

Local venues played included Skullys, Circus, Rumba Cafe, Victorian's Midnight Cafe (now The Shrunken Head), Bernie's, and Ruby Tuesday.
